Okay, so this is totally going to spoil a Christmas surprise for someone!
My son got interested in sous vide cookery last year, and his Christmas gifts consisted of the sous vide immersion cooker and a vacuum sealer. He loves using them, and swears that he cooks restaurant-quality meals now!
I was surprised by how easily he cooked meats to perfection, and he explained and demonstrated at great lengths how the immersion cooking keeps the food at a constant perfect temperature, and he can monitor his creations over wifi while watching the game in the next room!!
But, he was using clips to keep his vacuum bags immersed in the hot water - food tends to float, and he needed total immersion to keep temperatures optimal.
I found them on Amazon, follow this link to read more - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DCBZVRG
The weights came in a pack of three, each one weighing 5.15 ounces or 146 grams. I imagine you could add more than one weight at a time, if more ballast were needed.
They have a stainless steel core, surrounded by FDA Approved Silicone, and are BPA free. They fit into almost any container, but could also be used on top of a pre-sealed package, to weigh it down.
I wish that there had been some care instructions included with the weights - can I put them into a dishwasher? Are there any guidelines for using them properly? We just figured out how they can solve a problem for us, and, looking at the images on the Amazon site, tried them for the first time today.
Actually, I even used them to keep frozen meat submerged in cold water while it thawed! Worked great!
I'll let you know how the dinner was...but B is already promising a gourmet feast!
